Let me start writing my first blog on Ayurveda as this topic has bothered me since I started studying.
The reason is that people have made fun of me or did not want to hear an Ayurvedic point of view because they had a stereotyped “Ayurveda”. I must say that there are many Ayurvedic scholars – Doctors and non-doctors who propagate Ayurveda into a frame. I got people raising eyebrows when I used to suggest alcohol as medicine like aperitifs and digestives, but this has also got me positive response/followers commenting that this is a different Ayurvedic doctor and wanted to try Ayurveda again.
When Allopathic medicine is prescribed usually no one questions doctor what that has been given, but while taking Ayurvedic medicine each of the medicine is questioned and need explanation. They have got on my nerves by comparing the medicines as the same medicine was given for his/her friend for a different cause. It has to be understood that Ayurveda helps the body to fight against the issues and the medicines are usually not given based on your disease. So one product can be given for many issues.
Ayurveda is a Philosophy of living. It is not a medical system of restriction and medication, but a collective knowledge of lifestyle and supplements which can help you lead a healthy life or cure you of ailments. The lifestyle now a day’s has changed a lot and we should adopt the Ayurvedic principles accordingly. People follow traditions (when it come to eating tasty food) but do not understand the reason beyond the traditional lifestyle.
I have had the privilege to travel and work in different countries. Whenever I introduced myself as an Ayurvedic doctor I have ended up giving the lecture about Ayurveda in unimaginable places like bars/discos etc. I have lost prospective dates discussing Ayurveda… I am still single.
I know that you might have read many articles on Ayurveda, but here I would like to brush a bit on non-vegetarian and alcohol. (Look forward to a detailed article soon.)
I am not a vegetarian crusader nor against meat. I never talk of nonvegetarian or recommend someone until questioned. There are many kinds of Alcohol beverages that act as medicine if they are used judiciously or else act as intoxicants or poison otherwise. I have tried and used alcohol in complaints of dyspepsia, abdominal distension, and lethargic conditions to name a few. There are many factors when Ayurveda suggests something may it be diet, lifestyle, medicine etc. The factors considered generally are the body type, country one is born and brought up, the weather where one lives, things that you are accustomed to and your nature of the physical or mental activity.
Back during my studies, I used to sleep through the philosophy classes or the basic principle classes. But now I have spent many sleepless nights reading through them and understanding its importance. There are instances that I have treated so called difficult cases where the person had spent loads of money, with just simple lifestyle changes that didn’t even need to take a supplement.
You get a bespoke plan in Ayurveda. That is the reason why Ayurvedic doctors cannot be replaced by software. So if you follow Ayurveda properly where it says first to prevent and then treat, things are very simple. I believe that Ayurveda will never be outdated but gives a new meaning as the time passes………..

Hello,
A friend of mine, Matt Thomsen, met with you in Maldives and said your encounter was life changing! I live in California and wonder if you are able to take appointments by Skype/email exchange? I have been trying to go the holistic route with genetic based supplementation and vegan whole food diet to address toxic liver, brain fog and ongoing adrenal, hormone weight issues. I would love the opportunity to connect to see what else I can be doing. Thank you so much for your consideration!
